RAMAPO, RUTGERS-NEWARK SPLIT IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team split a NJAC double header with Rutgers-Newark University today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners took game one 1-0 while the Scarlet Raiders came back to win game two 1-0. Ramapo now stands at 15-9 overall, 4-3 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders are 10-14 overall, and 2-6 in the conference.

In game one, Melissa Moreno drove home Harper Patsko with an RBI double to left field plating the lone run of the game. Each team had chances to score in the final six innings but neither could push a run across.

Katrina Buzckowski improved to 7-4 on the mound striking out six and walking none. She scattered six hits in the shutout win. Patkso led the team with two hits in the game.

In game two, the Scarlet Raiders finally pushed a run across in the top of the seventh inning for a 1-0 lead. Kayla Gallo took the first pitch she saw and laced a double to right-center field before she moved to third on a sac bunt from Brittany Robertson. Morgan Walizer then poked a single through the right side of the infield allowing Gallo to cross home plate with the eventual game-winning run.

Ramapo did not go quietly in the bottom of the seventh. Ally Spellman led off with an infield single. Following the first out of the inning, Spellman moved to second on an infield ground out before relief pitcher Walizer induced a pinch-hit ground out to end the threat and earn the win.

Christina Brizek (8-3) surrendered ten hits in the loss while she struck out three and walked one. Spellman led the team with two hits.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host NJAC rival William Paterson University for a double header beginning at 1pm.
