SOFTBALL SWEEPS ONEONTA 4-3 & 8-0

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from SUNY Oneonta (8-7) today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners won game one 4-3 while they shutout the Red Dragons in game two 8-0. Ramapo improved to 9-5 overall.
 
In game one, rookie Harper Patsko put the Roadrunners on the board in the second inning with her first career home run, a two-run shot over the center field fence plating senior Mikayla Melendez to take a 2-0 lead. The Red Dragons got one back in the third when Ashley Lefebvre smacked a double to score Killeen Martin who reached on an error earlier in the inning.
 
The Roadrunners tacked on one run in the fifth when sophomore Christina Brizek ripped a double down the right field line and later scored on a hard hit single to right field off the bat of senior Melanie Walling to take a 3-1 lead. Oneonta came back one again to tie the game in the sixth inning before Ramapo scored the eventual game inning run in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Nicole Mahoney led off with a double to right field before she advanced to third on a fly out to right field. Sophomore Ally Spellman came up big with a sac fly to right field plating Mahoney for the eventual game winning run 4-3.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Katrina Buczkowski and the Ramapo defense shutdown Oneonta in the top of the seventh to take the game 4-3. The Red Dragons put the game tying run on base while senior Danielle Saporito made catch on the run in deep center field for the second out of the inning before Buczkowski induced a game ending pop foul out to third base for the final out of the game.
 
Buczkowski (3-3) went the distance for Ramapo with six strikeouts, no walks while she scattered six hits. Walling and Mahoney each collected two hits apiece for Ramapo at the plate.
 
In game two, Ramapo shutout the Red Dragons 8-0 in five innings. Brizek (6-1) started in the circle for the Roadrunners, tossing a three-hitter with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
 
Ramapo scored all their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Spellman got things started for the Roadrunners with a leadoff single before Saporito and Brizek each put down bunt singles to load the bases with not outs. Following a pitching change, senior Melissa Moreno laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Spellman for a 1-0 score. Saporito came around to scored on a wild pitch before Melendez walked with the bases loaded allowing Brizek to touch home plate, 3-0. Mahoney then ripped a single plating Moreno before senior Melanie Walling and Melendez both came home on back-to-back wild pitches. Patsko added an RBI single before Saporito doubled to left field extending the Ramapo lead 8-0.
 
Ramapo held the Red Dragons the final two innings for a run-ruled win. The Roadrunners collected nine hits in the game as Saporito and Moreno recorded multi hits game with two hits each.
 
Ramapo returns to action on April 2nd when they begin NJAC conference play against Stockton University at 1pm.
