RAMAPO TAKES DOWN KING'S 19-16

Wilkes-Barre, PA:  The Lady Roadrunners posted a 19-16 road victory today over King's College (PA) in a non-conference women's lacrosse match-up.  Behind eight goals from senior Lindsay Hughes, the Roadrunners improve to 3-3 overall.  King's falls to 2-5. 
 
Hughes finished the game with eight goals and two assists while Victoria Cunningham added four goals to the mix.  Emma Bolton, Brianna Himpele, and Alyssa Tachon chipped in two goals each while Molly Warner added the final goal of the game.  Tachon led in ground balls with five and Jessica Meyers picked up four ground balls while playing all 60 minutes in the net collecting the win and 14 saves.
 
Ramapo went up 2-0 at the start of the game with back-to-back goals from Hughes and Bolton, before King's closed the gap with 24:28 on the clock when Anastasia Araviakis dished a ball to Sarah Almony.  The Roadrunners would connect four straight goals over the next four minutes to go up, 6-1.  Gabriella Morrocu posted a goal for King's before Hughes tacked on her third of the game for a 7-2 Ramapo lead with just over 13 minutes to play.  In the final minutes, Ramapo would out score King's 6-4 to head into the intermission with a 13-6 lead. 
 
Meyers made eight saves in the half as Ramapo held a 19-15 advantage in shots.  Victoria Zawacki collected five first half saves for King's.
 
King's came out on fire at the start of the second half posting three straight goals to close the gap to 9-13 with 25:01 on the clock, but Hughes and Himpele would answer to push ahead 15-9.  The eventual game winning goal came with 15:17 on the clock when Hughes dished a ball to Cunningham taking a 17-13 lead.  King's would out score Ramapo 3-2 in the final minutes but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners walked away with the three goal, 19-16 non-conference win.
 
Meyers added six more saves in the final half and Zawacki posted four, but this time King's held an 18-12 advantage in shots.  Morrocu and Almony led King's with four goals each and Megan O'Brien picked up six ground balls.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Friday, March 25th when they host College of St. Elizabeth at the Athletic Center at 3:30pm.
