Mahwah, NJ: The #4 ranked Ramapo College baseball team remains undefeated after earning an 8-1 victory over Drew University in their 2016 home opener today in Mahwah. Ramapo jumps ahead to 13-0 overall while Drew falls to 6-9.
Ramapo was led by
Connor Walsh who collected a perfect 2-2 hitting performance scoring two runs and driving in one.
Joe Venturino hit 2-4 with four runs scored.
Austin Unglaub and
Scott Paulus each hit 2-3 with Unglaub driving in three runs and Paulus two.
Ryan Rinsky and
Matt Chemis each collected a hit on the day and Joe DeAngelis crossed home plate for a run of his own.
Jon Brignoni gets the win for Ramapo as he pitched 7.1 innings. He struck out four and walked none letting up just four hits. Brignoni improves to 2-0 on the year with today's victory. Zach Luke gets the loss for Drew falling to 1-1 on the year. He struck out two and walked four in four innings on the mound.
It was the bottom of the 3rd when the first runs of the game got on the board. Ramapo took a 3-0 lead in the inning as Walsh drove in Chemis after Chemis singled to center field with one out earlier in the inning. Venturino scored on a throw over to third before Walsh later scored on Unglaub's single to right field.
Ramapo tacked on an additional run in the 5th inning when Paulus ripped a single to right field driving home Venturino. Venturino reached on an error to lead off the inning and reach first base. Hi run put Ramapo ahead, 4-0.
The Rangers finally got on the board in the top of the 6th inning when Anthony Feltre singled to lead off, and later came home on a Tommy Broyles sac fly to right field, but it wasn't enough as Ramapo wasn't done scoring two in the 7th from Venturino and Walsh before wrapping up the game with two runs in the 8th, one each from Venturino and DeAngelis earning the 8-1 non-conference win.
Greg Westhelle and
Eli Garcia-Reyes closed out the game on the mound for Ramapo in the 7th and 8th innings leaving Drew scoreless.
Feltre hit 1-4 with one run scored for Drew while Broyles drove in the lone run for the Rangers in the loss.
Ramapo returns to action on March 24th when they travel to FDU-Florham for a 3:30pm match-up.
