WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFEATS CENTENARY 16-2

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team opened up the 2016 season with a 16-2 home victory over Centenary College today at the Athletic Center.
 
The Roadrunners (1-0) opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the first half when Victoria Cunningham recorded her first goal of the game while Ramapo was playing up a man due to a yellow card on Centenary (0-1) to start the game. Lindsay Hughes tallied back-to-back goals before Molly Warner scored her first goal of the season to take a 4-0 lead with 25:55 left in the first half. Emma Bolton and Cunningham each scored goals for the Roadrunners before Hughes tallied her third goal of the game and her 200th of her career. Hughes becomes the first Roadrunner in program history to tally 200 career goals. Hughes then dished a pass off to Bolton who hit the back of the net before Hayley Luisa scored unassisted to take a 9-0 lead. Hughes scored her fourth goal of the game with under 7:30 on the clock before Centenary scored their first goal of the game. Abby Voelkner scored off a pass from Devin Sutko with 4:34 left in the first half. Bolton teamed up with Hughes once again for the final goal of the half for either team and her third of the game for an 11-1 lead heading into halftime.
 
In the second half, Ramapo tacked on five straight goals to take a 16-1 lead. Bolton, Luisa, Alyssa Tachon, Beth McGraw (2) and Cunningham all scored for the Roadrunners. The Cyclones recorded their second goal of the game when Priscilla Ortiz tallied her first goal of the season with 2:04 left to play.
 
Tara Ward collected seven saves in the net for Ramapo earning her first win of her career while Renee Hack posted three saves for Centenary in the loss.
 
The Roadrunners will return to action when they take on #5 The College of New Jersey on March 8th at the Athletic Center at 3:30pm.
