Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

HUGHES LEADS RAMAPO OVER SAGE, 16-4

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team played host to non-conference rival Sage Colleges today at the Athletic Center where, behind six goals from senior Lindsay Hughes, recorded a 16-4 victory to jump ahead to 2-3 on the year.  Sage falls to 2-3 overall.

Hughes finished with six goals and three assists while Victoria Cunningham collected three goals and one assist of her own.  Alyssa Tachon had eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers and Jessica Meyers collected 11 saves in the win.

Hughes quickly got Ramapo on the scoreboard at the start of the game when she ripped a shot past Jackie St. Pierre just under three minutes in and five minutes later, Hayley Luisa posted a goal of her own off an assist from Tachon to put Ramapo up, 2-0. Hughes came from behind the net and at 18:31 put the Roadrunners on top three goals to none forcing a Sage timeout. Cunningham capitalized on a free position shot with 16:04 to play before Sage's Monica Koralus got the Gators on the board just 13 seconds later to close the gap, 1-4. Martine Ianniello put Sage within two goals but Hughes and Cunningham posted back-to-back goals just six seconds apart to take a 6-2 advantage. With 3:39 to play, Ellen Abbott put one away for Sage before Hughes tacked on her fourth of the game 13 seconds later answering Abbott's goal to jump ahead 7-3.  Hughes posted a free position goal with 1:41 to play for an 8-3 lead which held heading into the intermission.

Ramapo held a 16-13 advantage at the half and Meyers made seven saves for the Roadrunners. St. Pierre collected three saves in goal for Sage. 

At the start of the second half, Tachon scored her 11th goal of the season just over three minutes in, before scoring her 12th of the year to put Ramapo ahead, 10-3 with 26:57 to go and forcing a Sage timeout. Beth McGraw posted a goal off an assist from Hughes and Hughes grabbed another free position goal with 25:18 to play for a 12-3 lead. Katie Duca gave Ramapo a ten-goal, 13-3 lead off an assist from Hughes before Hughes dished a ball to Cunningham for a 14-3 advantage with 20:48 left in the game. The Gators would collect one goal in the final minutes to Ramapo's three giving Ramapo the 16-4 victory.

Ramapo again led in shots in the half 15-9 and Meyers made four additional saves.  St. Pierre made two saves in the final 30 minutes of play.

For Sage, Koralus led with two goals and St. Pierre finished the day with five saves.

Ramapo returns to action on March 23rd on the road against King's College of PA at 4:00pm.
