RAMAPO EARNS WINS OVER UTICA & #23 CORTLAND

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team swept their final two games at the Rebel Spring Games with a walk-off win over Utica College (3-7) 5-4 and a 4-0 shutout win over #23 SUNY Cortland (7-3). The Roadrunners now stand at 7-5 overall.
 
In game one, Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Christina Brizek walked with one out before Melissa Moreno singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Mikayla Melendez drove home Brizek with a hard hit single to center field with two outs for the game's first run. 
 
Utica tied the game in the top of the second inning when Abby Monroe drove home the game-tying run with a single to centerfield with two outs. Ramapo regained the lead in the bottom of the second. Erin Fitzsimmons singled to center field before Ally Spellman reached on an error. With two outs, both runners moved up one base on a wild pitch before Brizek helped her own cause when she sent a 2-2 pitch back up the middle allowing both runs to score for a 3-1 lead. Utica got one run back in the in the third to come within one 3-2 before they took the lead in the sixth with two runs for a 4-3 lead.
 
Ramapo would hold Utica in the top of the seventh as they headed to the bottom half of the inning with a chance to win the game. Melissa Moreno ripped a single up the middle before being lifted for pinch runner Nicole Mahoney. Harper Patsko then singled in the hole to shortstop before both runners moved to second and third on a wild throw from Utica. With two outs and two strikes, Grace Brennan ripped a hard hit ball to third base which was thrown wide of first base allowing Mahoney and Patsko to score the game-winning run with a walk-off 5-4 win.
 
Brizek (5-1) went the distance for Ramapo with two strikeouts and one walk while she surrendered nine hits and four runs (two earned). She also went 1-3 at the plate scoring one run and driving in two. Patsko and Moreno each finished 2-4 in the game.
 
In game two, Ramapo shutout #23 SUNY Cortland 4-0 behind a four-hit, seven-strikeout performance from Roadrunner starter Katrina Buczkowski (2-4). Ramapo got on the board early with a run in the top of the first inning. Saporito took the first pitch of the game into center field before stealing second base. She moved to third on an infield error before scoring on a fielder's choice off the bat of Melanie Walling for a 1-0 lead.
 
In the third inning, Saporito walked before Brizek put down a sac bunt as Saporito ran all the way to third on the play with two outs. Moreno then took the second pitch of her at-bat and drove it back up the middle allowing Saporito to score 2-0. In the fifth inning, Saporito once again crossed home plate for a 3-0 score. She led off the inning with a double before moving scoring on a hard hit single down the left field line from Walling.
 
In the sixth inning, Brennan ripped a home run over the left field fence, her first of the year, extending the Ramapo lead 4-0. Buczkowski and the Ramapo defense held the Red Dragons in the final to innings to preserve the shutout win.
 
Saporito and Walling each collected two hits while Moreno and Brennan each posted one apiece.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on March 24th when they host Oneonta in a non-conference double-header beginning at 3pm.
