SOFTBALL TAKES TWO 5-2 & 5-0

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team swept a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games today with wins over Skidmore College 5-2 and Lesley University 5-0. Ramapo evens their record at 4-4 overall.
 
In game one, Skidmore took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Fortunato singled up the middle plating Foley who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. In the third inning Skidmore scored their second run to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Skidmore held Ramapo to just one hit through the first four innings before Ramapo broke out and scored two runs to tie the game 2-2. With two outs in the fifth inning Christina Brizek walked before Danielle Saporito reach on an infield error. Pinch hitter Oliva Mahon came up big and singled to center field to load the bases for Melissa Moreno. Moreno laced the second pitch she saw into left field plating Brizek and Saporito.
 
Mikayla Melendez and Melanie Walling each singled to start the sixth inning before Grace Brennan put down a sac bunt to move them up one base. Walling was lifted for pinch runner Shannon Cox before Ally Spellman came up big with a hard hit single through the left side of the infield plating Melendez with the eventual game winning run for a 3-2 lead. Brizek helped her own cause with a double to left field plating two runs for a 5-2 lead.
 
The Ramapo defense held the lead the remainder of the game for the 5-2 win. Brizek (3-1) went the distance for the Roadrunners with five strikeouts while she scattered eight hits. Eight different Roadrunners recorded a hit in the game while Spellman and Brizek each posted two RBI.
 
In game two, Ramapo shutout Lesley University 5-0 behind a three-hitter from Katrina Buczkowski (1-2). The Roadrunners got the only run they would need in the top of the first inning with a triple to right field from Saporito before Brizek lifted a sac fly to right field for the quick 1-0 lead.
 
In the third inning, Spellman singled with one out before Saporito collected her 100th career hit with a double to right-centerfield. Spellman held up at third base on the hit while Brizek drove them both home with a double to left field. Brizek stole third base before Moreno drove her in with a single through the right side of the infield, extending their lead 4-0. The Roadrunners scored their final run in the fourth inning when Brennan doubled to left-centerfield with one out. Harper Patsko then drove her home with a hard hit single up the middle for a 5-0 score.
 
Buczkowski and the Ramapo defense would hold them the rest of the way for the shutout win. She struck out six and walked none in the complete game win. Saporito led the team with two hits and two runs scored while Brizek drove home three RBI finishing 1-2 in the game.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow when they take on Washington College (MD) at 9am and Dubuque College at 11:15am.
