Auburndale, FL: The #9/12 Ramapo College baseball team remains undefeated (10-0) with a doubleheader sweep over #15/22 Washington University (MO) (12-7).
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at 12:30pm when they take on Framingham State University at Chain O'Lakes Stadium Field.
The Roadrunners are ranked #9 in the first ABCA Top 25 poll of the season and the Bears are ranked #15 while Ramapo moved up to #12 in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 poll and the Bears are ranked 22.
In the top of the first inning the Bears scored three unearned runs to take a quick 3-0 lead before Ramapo came back with six runs on seven hits to go ahead 6-3. Connors Walsh led off with a single before being followed up by a single from
Austin Unglaub.
Scott Paulus drove a single to center field for the third straight hit of the inning, the ball was misplayed by the Bear defense allowing Walsh to touch home plate. With one out,
Ryan Rinsky ripped a single to left field plating Unglaub before
Bobby Shannon laced a triple to right-center field as Paulus and Rinsky came around to score.
Rob DeAngelis singled home Shannon before
Joe Venturino doubled home DeAnglis for the team's sixth run of the game. The Roadrunners added two runs in the fourth taking an 8-3 lead.
Matt Chemis singled home Shannon who reached on a single to lead off the inning before DeAngelis was able to score when Chemis got caught in a run down and eventually tagged out.
The Bears added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come within three 8-5 but the Roadrunners were able to hold the lead for their ninth straight win.
Brian Cottrell (1-0) scattered seven hits while he struck out five and walked three in five innings.
Tyler Curto faced four batters in relief earning the first out of the sixth inning before
Casey Jervis came into earn the save in 1.2 innings of work. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered only one hit.
In game two, the Roadrunners pounded out 12 hits and scored nine runs to take the game 9-4. In the first inning, DeAngelis walked before he stole second and moved to third by a throwing error. Chemis poked a single up the middle allowing DeAngelis to score for a 1-0 lead. Ramapo blew the game open in the second with a five run inning with six hits and one Bear error. Rinsky doubled home Crabbe, who reached on a single earlier in the inning before DeAngelis singled home Rinsky and Chemis singled home Shannon. Venturino smacked a single through the left side of the infield before Chemis scored on a Bear error. The Bears got on the board in the top of the third inning before Ramapo got the run back in the bottom of the third. With two outs
Kevin Cagnetta came around to score when a throw from the Bear pitcher got away as he tried picking off Chemis at first base. The Roadrunners added two more run in the fourth while WashU came back with two of their own in the top of the fifth and one in the top of the seventh before reliever
Kyle Haag was able to close the door and get the final out of the game for a 9-4 win.
John Doherty (2-0) struck out four and walked three while he scattered five hits over five innings of work.
Kyle Haag came in for relief for the final six outs, striking out five, walking none and surrendering just two hits. Chemis, Venturino,
Jared Ensmenger and Rinsky all posted two hits in the game while Chemis led the team with two RBI.
