SOFTBALL DEFEATS DICKINSON, FALLS TO SPRINGFIELD

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games today at the Rebel Spring Games. They stand at 2-4 overall after falling to Springfield College 2-0 in game one before they defeated Dickinson University 11-1 in five innings.

Springfield (4-1) got on the board in the top of the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles with two outs to take a 2-0 lead. Those are all the runs they would need in the game as they held the Roadrunners in their final three at-bats.

Talia Loda (2-1) went the distance for Springfield with two strikeouts and one walk while she scattered four hits.

Katrina Buczkowski (0-2) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners while she struck out six and walked none while she scattered five hits in the complete game.  Danielle Saporito finished 2-3 in the game while Mikayla Walling and Nicole Mahoney each tallied one hit in the game.

In game two, Ramapo defeated Dickinson in a run-ruled five-inning game, 11-1. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Harper Patsko reached on an error before Melanie Walling walked with two outs. Megan Wall then poked a single to left field allowing Patsko to come around and score.

The Roadrunners scored ten runs in the top of the second inning on eight hits. Ally Spellman drew a walk to lead off the inning before Christina Brizek put down a bunt single. Saporito ripped a double to right-center field allowing Spellman and Brizek to score. Saporito then stole second and was able to score when the throw from the Springfield catcher sailed into left field. Patsko posted a bunt single, Melissa Moreno ripped a double to left field and Walling walked to load the bases before Mikayla Melendez drew a four-pitch walk. Wall then drove a single to left-center driving home Moreno and Walling. Brennan, Brizek and Saportio hit back-to-back-to-back RBI singles before Patsko lifted a sac fly to right field plating Brizek with the team's 11th run of the inning.

Dickinson scored on run in the bottom of the fifth before Ramapo got the final out of the game with a play at the plate. A single to left field allowed one run to score before a second runner attempted to cross home plate but the throw from Brennan was cut off by Melendez as she fired home to Olivia Mahon who applied the tag for the final out of the game. Brizek (2-1) earned the win firing a 2-hitter with one strike out and one walk. Paige Merle pitched the final inning surrendering one run, one hit and walking two.

Wall finished the game 3-4 with three RBI while Saporito was 2-4 with one run scored and three RBI. Brizek finished 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI while Patsko, Moreno, Brennan and Spellman each tallied one hit in the game.
