BASEBALL DOWNS FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 20-5

Auburndale, FL:  The #9/12 Ramapo College baseball team defeated Franklin & Marshall College today 20-5 and improved to 8-0 overall while the Diplomats fall to 5-6 on the year.



Ramapo recently moved up in the D3baseball.com Top 25 to 12th while they are ranked #9 in the first ABCA Top 25 Poll released today.

 
Connor Walsh singled home two RBI in the top of the first inning as Rob DeAngelis and Joe Venturino came around to score. With one out and the bases loaded Joe Crabbe lifted a sac fly to left field plating Walsh for the third run of the game.
 
Franklin & Marshall scored one run in the bottom of the first inning with a home run from Jimmy Whelan to come within two, 1-3. F&M scored one more run in the top of the third to come within one run before they took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs on four hits for a 5-3 lead.
 
Ramapo came back in the fifth inning and scored seven runs on seven hits to re-take the lead 10-5. Matt Chemis reached on an error before he stole second. Venturino then drove him home with a double before Walsh drove home Venturino with a double of his own. Austin Unglaub ripped a single to center field allowing Walsh to come around and score before Bobby Shannon laced a single past the third basemen as Unglaub came around to score. DeAngelis singled home Scott Paulus before Chemis stepped to the plate for the second time this inning and drove a double to right field plating DeAngelis and Shannon with the sixth and seventh runs of the inning. Ramapo added two runs in the seventh and eight runs in the eighth inning, extending their lead 20-5.
 
The Roadrunners pounded out 19 hits in the game – and the second straight game recording 20 or more runs. Mike Campbell started on the mound for Ramapo and lasted 3.0 innings while he struck out three, walked one and surrendered four runs in the no decision. Greg Westhelle (2-0) came in for relief earning the win firing a three-hitter over four innings of work with two strikeouts and one walk. Casey Jervis pitched the final inning – the eighth – facing three batters with two strikeouts.
 
Unglaub and Paulus led the team with three hits apiece while DeAngelis, Chemis, Venturino, Walsh and Shannon all collected two hits. Chemis, Walsh and Unglaub all drove home three RBI.
 
The game finished in the eighth inning due to Ramapo being ahead by more than ten runs – this was agreed on by the head coaches of both teams and the umpires prior to the game.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on #15/22 Washington University (MO) in a double header at the Lake Myrtle Field Complex beginning at 1:00pm.
