BASEBALL POUNDS OUT 18 HITS IN 21-8 WIN OVER RPI

Auburndale, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute today 21-8. The Roadrunners remain undefeated with a 7-0 overall record while RPI drops to 2-8 overall.
 
Ramapo scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 8-0 lead. The Roadrunners would score all eight runs with two outs. Rob DeAngelis led off the inning with a single before Connor Walsh walked. De Angelis scored on Austin Unglaub's single up the middle before Walsh came home following an infield error. Ryan MacNaughton, Ryan Rinsky, Bobby Shannon each drove home runs with back-to-back-to-back RBI singles before DeAngelis stepped to the plate for the second time in the inning and delivered an RBI double to left field plating Rinsky. Chemis laced a single down the right field line driving home DeAngelis and Shannon.
 
RPI got back three runs in the top of the second inning. JT Sawyer doubled home the team's first run of the game before Sam Lawrence singled home Sawyer and Weston Hawkins. Ramapo added two runs in the bottom half of the inning once again with two outs. Scott Paulus singled and advanced to third on a throwing error and later scored when Shannon drove home Paulus and MacNaughton. In the third inning the Roadrunners extended their lead with seven runs on four hits and two RPI errors. The inning was highlighted by Chris Eveigan who drove home two runs with his first career hit, a hard hit single down the left field line.
 
In the fifth, RPI added two runs on four hits before Ramapo came back to score four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Henry Myerchin led off with a single and following the first out of the inning Kevin Cagnetta recorded his first career hit with an infield single. Jared Ensmenger drove home Myerchin and Cagnetta with a single down the left field line. With the bases loaded Chris Nierva roped a single up the middle for his first career hit driving home one run before Mike DiGirolamo singled home Ensemenger with his first career hit to take a 21-5 lead. RPI added three runs in the eighth on five hits 21-8.
 
Jon Brignoni (1-0) earned his first career win with a five-inning outing. He struck out five, walked one and scattered nine hits while surrendering five runs (three earned). Robert Sartori came in for relief to start the sixth as he struck out two, walked none and let up only six hits. DeAngelis led the team with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI while Chemis tallied two hits, four RBI and one run scored. Shannon was perfect at the plate going 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBI.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon at 12:30pm when they take on Franklin & Marshall College at Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex.
