#15 RAMAPO BASEBALL SWEEPS COE

Aburndale, FL:  The Ramapo College baseball team swept Coe College today, 6-5 in game one and 6-1 in game two, both seven inning games. Ramapo is ranked #15 in the D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll and now stands at 4-0 overall. The Roadrunners snapped Coe's four-game win streak, the Kohawks now stand at 4-3 overall. The Kohawks earned votes in the latest D3baseball.com Top 25 Poll.
 
In game one, Coe used a five run first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead aided by two Ramapo errors. The Roadrunners got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning. Bobby Shannon led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch before moving up to third on an infield ground out. Matt Chemis singled Shannon home with a hit to right field before Scott Paulus plated the second run of the inning with a bases loaded RBI sac fly to center field. In the fourth inning, Ryan Rinsky ripped a double to left before moving up to third on a Shannon single. Rob DeAngelis then drove home Rinsky with a single to left field to come within two runs, 3-5.
 
Ramapo completed the come back in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring three runs on two hits. The bases were loaded when Chemis pushed home a run with an infield ground out, scoring Rinsky who led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Following the second out of the inning, Walsh laced a double to left field allowing Shannon and Joe Venturino to score with the game winning run, 6-5. The Ramapo bullpen was able to hold the Kohawks in the top of the seventh as Jerry D'Andrea earned the save.
 
Mike Campbell started for Ramapo only working .2 innings and allowing five runs, three earned. Tyler Curto came in relief (1.1 innings) and did not allow a hit while striking out two. Greg Westhelle (1-0) earned the win in relief; he worked 4.0 innings, surrendering one hit while facing 14 Kohawks. Kyle Haag worked the top of the seventh allowing a lead off single before Rinsky threw him out trying to steal. Following a walk, D'Andrea came into the game.  Rinsky once again threw out a Coe player trying to steal second base before D'Andrea got a strike out to end the game.
 
Shannon led the team at the plate in game one going 3-3 with two runs scored while Walsh was 1-3 with two RBI and Chemis finished 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI.
 
In game two, Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Venturino drove home DeAngelis with a RBI single through the right side of the infield. DeAngelis was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning, stole second base before moving to third on an infield groundout. Coe game back to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom half of the fourth before Ramapo broke out and scored three runs in the fifth inning. Chemis drove home two runs with a double in the right-centerfield gap, plating Shannon and DeAngelis before Walsh singled home Chemis for a 4-1 lead. The Roadrunners tacked on two more runs in the sixth to take extend the lead 6-1. With one out Evan Ochlan ripped a double to left field before Shannon took the first pitch he saw and drilled it over the left field fence. The Ramapo defense did not give up another run in the game for their second win of the day.
 
John Doherty (1-0) earned his first collegiate win of his career on the mound, tossing 6.0 innings with two strikeouts while only surrendering two hits and one earned run. CJ Growney came in relief to start the seventh inning while he surrendered one hit and struck out two, including the final out of the game. Chemis finished the game 2-4 with one run scored and two RBI while Venturino was 2-4 with one RBI. Shannon finished the game 1-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
