Farmingdale, NY: The Ramapo College women's lacrosse team dropped a tough one-goal, 13-14 decision today to the Rams of Farmingdale State in a non-conference road match-up. With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 1-2 overall on the year while the Rams jump ahead to .500 at 1-1 winning their home opener today.
With two seconds remaining, the Rams held the 14-13 advantage with Ramapo holding the ball for a free position opportunity. Farmingdale forced a high shot hanging onto the win.
Early in the second half the game was tied at 7-7 until junior midfielder Brittany Rosino scored an unassisted goal to put the Rams ahead by one. Just 24 seconds later, Ramapo responded with a goal from sophomore midfielder
Alyssa Tachon to even the game at 8-8.
With 21:43 remaining on the clock, Farmingdale State regained the lead on a Kristen Keller unassisted goal and with back-to-back goals from junior attack Janisha Sanchez, the Rams would extend their lead to 11-8 with 18:57 left to play.
After Tachon converted a free-position attempt for Ramapo, Farmingdale State got goals from Alexandra Sparrow and Rosino to open up a 13-9 lead.
The Roadrunners were trailing 14-10 when they scored three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 14-13 with 13 seconds left on the clock. Ramapo won the final draw control but could not convert the game-tying free-position attempt as the Rams held on for the 14-13 non-conference win.
Sanchez led the Rams with six points on two goals and four assists, while Rosino and Sparrow each tallied three goals and one assist. Senior defender Sara Rivadeneyra caused a career-high five turnovers and picked up four ground balls in the victory.
Ramapo was led by Tachon and senior midfielder
Lindsay Hughes who each scored six goals and had one assist.
The Roadrunners return to action on March 15th when they travel to Bridgewater College for a 5pm match-up.
