Galloway, NJ: The Stockton University women's basketball team used a second half come back to top Ramapo College 52-37 in NJAC action today at the Sports Center. The Ospreys improve to 18-4 overall, 12-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-17, 3-12 in the conference.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first quarter before Stockton came back with an 11-2 run to take a 14-11 lead with 1:07 on the clock in the first quarter. Ramapo tied the game on a three-pointer from
Shelby Ringer off a dish from
Bridgette Buckalew before Sasha Williams scored a layup with 19 seconds remaining to take a 16-14 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Stockton scored the first basket before
Alexandra Seedes sank a three-pointer to come within one 17-18 before Lea Mendolla nailed a three-pointer for Stockton to take a 21-17 lead. Ramapo then went on an 8-0 run to close the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead.
Bintou Berete started the run with a jumper at 6:41 while Buckalew sank a pair of free throws with 11 seconds remaining.
The Ospreys began their comeback in the third quarter when they opened with a 7-0 run to take a 28-25 lead. Seedes hit another three for the Roadrunners to tie the game 28-28 before Stockton went on another 7-0 run to end the quarter up 35-28. In the fourth, the Ospreys held Ramapo to nine points as they scored 17 of their own for a 52-37 victory.
The Roadrunners were led by Seedes with 12 points, all three-pointers while
Kellie Lane added eight points of her own. Alyson Oostyk led the team with eight rebounds. Ramapo shot 27% (13-47) from the field, 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 42% (6-14) from the free throw line. Ramapo caused 13 Stockton turnovers, which led to eight points for the Roadrunners
Stockton had three players score in double figures. Sasha William led the team with a double double, 17 points and 14 rebounds while Mendolla added 15 points and four steals and April Peterson tallied 12 points of her own. The Ospreys shot 26% (16-61) from the field, 16% (2-12) from the three-point line and 85% (18-21) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 10th when they travel to NJAC rival the College of New Jersey for a game at 6:00pm
