Ewing, NJ: The Lions of The College of New Jersey proved to be too much for the Roadrunners as they surpassed Ramapo, 51-39 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball match-up tonight. The Roadrunners fall to 5-18 overall and 3-13 in the conference with the loss, while TCNJ jumps ahead to 12-11 overall and .500 in the conference at 8-8.
Kellie Lane led the Roadrunners shooting 6-11 from the field netting 13 points while
Alexandra Seedes collected seven points in the team's road conference loss. The team combined hitting 18-54 (33%) on the night as
Bridgette Buckalew led the team with six rebounds.
Alyson Oostdyk dished out seven assists and
Grace Elliott grabbed two steals. For the Lions, Kim Dana and Nikki Schott recorded 11 points each as the team hit 18-49 (37%) from the field. Christina Merlin pulled down eight boards and Dana contributed on five baskets with five assists. She also grabbed a team high five steals in the win.
TCNJ led the entire match working to a ten-point (17-7) advantage at the end of the first period with a buzzer beater three-pointer from Kate O'Leary. In the second period, Ramapo would come within four points with 4:57 on the clock after a layup from Oostdyk put Ramapo behind just 17-21. The Lions spread the gap to nine points at the halftime buzzer heading into the locker room with a 29-20 lead over the Roadrunners. Dana hit a buzzer beating jump shot to take the nine-point lead at the half.
Kelly McNulty led Ramapo with six first half points as the team went 9-23 (39%) and TCNJ's Dana led in the half with eight points. The Lions combined hitting 10-23 (44%).
The Lions worked to a 16-point lead with 2:20 to play in the third period. The front-end of a two shot foul from Merlin would put the Lions up 42-26.
Shelby Ringer nailed a long shot from behind the arc for Ramapo to end the third period trailing the Lions, 29-43. The Roadrunners came within seven points (35-42) with a layup from Lane with just under seven minutes to play, but it wasn't enough as the Lions earned the 51-39 home win in NJAC action. Lane led in the second half with ten points. Ramapo shot a combined 9-31 (29%) and TCNJ hit 8-26 (31%) in the final half of play with Schott leading the way with seven points.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, February 13th when they host Rutgers Camden at 1pm.
