Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the 2016 season today over Purchase College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 20-17) to improve to 1-4 overall, before posting a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-20) sweep over Bard College to jump ahead to 2-4 overall on the year.
Against Purchase, sophomore
Justin Feigeles recorded a team leading 15 kills and
Paul Close added ten as the team hit a combined 42-77 with 12 errors (.390).
Patrick Wixted picked up eight kills and
Mikhael Erushalimski dished out a team leading 32 assists. Close led the team's defense with five digs and
Nick Amos and Erushalimski each collected an assisted block.
Jordan Elam put away two solo blocks in the win. For Purchase, Kevin Carges collected a team leading nine kills and Riley Damerell added seven as the team hit 24-66 with 17 errors hitting .106. Damerell dished out 12 assists and Andrew Schwab added 11, while Matthew McCarthy picked up eight digs.
In Ramapo's second match of the day verse Bard, the Roadrunners came out on top behind 14 kills from Feigeles and eight more from Close. The team hit 41-91 with 16 errors hitting .275. Erushalimski dished out 36 assists and
Spencer Shickora led the defense with 13 digs. Feigeles added 11 digs in the win. For Bard, Jesse Small and Troy Robertson each added four kills and Alex Adams led the way with seven kills of his own. The team went 22-85 with 11 errors hitting .129. Mahir Sheikh dished out ten assists and the defense was led by Tyler Zowaski with 12 digs.
In another match, Purchase defeated Bard College, 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 25-17, 26-24) behind 12 kills from Carges and 11 from Schwab. Damerell contributed ten kills as he assisted on 20 points. Schwab added 14 assists in the win. The team combined hitting .182 with 41 kills on 132 attempts with 17 errors. Schwab and McCarthy each picked up 16 digs. Adams led Bard as he recorded 15 kills. Small recorded 12 and the team hit a combined 44-137 with 23 errors hitting .153. Kai Bernier-Chen led the defense with 13 digs. Purchase wrapped up the day standing at 3-5 overall and Bard finished standing at 1-9 overall.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 10th when they host New Paltz at 7pm at the Bradley Center.
