SEEDES LEADS RAMAPO IN NJAC WIN OVER NJCU

Mahwah, NJ:  Alexandra Seedes led the Ramapo College women's basketball team in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Bradley Center as the Lady Roadrunners defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 71-43.  Snapping a five game losing streak, the Roadrunners improve to 5-16 overall and 3-11 in conference play.  NJCU falls to 1-19 overall and 0-14 in the NJAC.
 
Seedes dropped a team leading 20 points in the win shooting 7-16 from the field including six three-point goals, while Kellie Lane nailed down 15 of her own in the team's fifth win of the season.  Shelby Ringer and Grace Elliott added 12 and 11 points respectively as the team combined hitting 26-51 (51%).  Seedes led pulling down six boards and Bridgette Buckalew dished out eights assists on the night.  For NJCU, Deseree Johnson led the team with 11 points and Sharaundra Fiedtkou recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.  Johnson grabbed four steals in the loss.  The team went 17-61 (28%) combined.
 
The Gothic Knights got on the scoreboard first but Ramapo quickly responded working to an 8-2 lead with 6:49 on the clock.  Shege Haxhaj nailed down two points to spark a 7-0 run for NJCU which was capped by a three-pointer from Johnson to take a 9-8 lead with 4:40 to go in the period.  The two teams traded baskets in the final minutes ending with Ramapo on top, 14-13 at the buzzer.  In the second period, Ramapo worked to a seven-point advantage with a long shot from Seedes to go up 22-15 and the Gothic Knights were able to come within three points (23-26) with 1:16 to go in the half with a layup from Marcielle Richards, but Ramapo would score the final five points of the half to head into the locker room with a 31-23 lead over NJCU.  Ramapo shot 11-27 (41%) in the first half of play as Seedes nailed down 15 points hitting 5-10 from the field, all three-point goals. Haxhaj shot 4-7 and led the Gothic Knights with eight points as the team combined hitting 10-30 (33%). 
 
Elliott hit the first basket of the third period to give Ramapo their first double-digit lead of the game, 33-23, but NJCU responded with a basket and then a tip in from Fiedtkou to close the gap, 27-33.  A basket from Lane and a long shot from Ringer put Ramapo in a double-digit lead once again, 38-27 and another three-point goal from Ringer with 3:20 to play gave the Roadrunners a 45-27 advantage.  With 1:27 to go, Ringer nailed down another long goal to go ahead 51-27, a score that remained until the buzzer.  The Roadrunners completely controlled the offensive game in the final period working to a 30-point advantage, their biggest lead of the game, with a jumper from Kelly McNulty with just 57 seconds to play in the game.  NJCU would drain a three-pointer to finish the game with Ramapo on top, 71-43.  Lane and Ringer each scored nine points in the half as the team hit a combined 15-24 (63%).  NJCU was held to just seven field goals on 31 attempts shooting 23%.  Fiedtkou sank a team leading eight points.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, February 6th when they travel to Stockton University for a 3pm tip off.
