Danbury, CT: The Ramapo College women's basketball team, behind 16 points from
Tia Solomon, posted a 53-50 victory today over Wheaton College in the final game of the Hat City Classic. With the win the Roadrunners improve to 6-5 overall. Wheaton falls to 2-9.
Solomon went 7-10 from the field and 2-4 from the charity stripe as she collected a game high 16 points.
Bridgette Buckalew netted nine points and
Shelby Ringer,
Jina Crawford, and
Samantha Rinaldi each contributed six points. The team combined hitting 20-47 (43%) from the field in the win. Solomon also led the team in rebounds with six and Buckalew dished out three assists.
Ringer would nail down a three-point goal to start the game and the Roadrunners would close out the first quarter with a 10-0 run to lead 20-9 with a buzzer beating layup from Solomon. But Wheaton would respond in the second quarter with a 10-1 run of their own to come within one, 24-25 at 2:15 with a jumper from Lexi L'Heureux-Carland. Wheaton would hold a slight one point, 28-27 advantage at the half where Oppie Morris led with seven points. Solomon led the Roadrunners with ten points as the team went 12-24 (50%).
Wheaton would start the third quarter gaining a six-point, 35-29 lead with 7:48 on the clock but Ramapo would respond closing the gap to one point with a three from Ringer at 5:43 and taking the lead with two good free throws from Solomon two minutes later. Wheaton led at the end of the third quarter but in the fourth, Crawford would give Ramapo the lead at 6:32 with a two point goal to go up, 44-42, and they would never look back taking the non-conference game, 53-50. Solomon and Rinaldi each collected six points in the final half to lead Ramapo as the team went 8-23 (35%). Morris led Wheaton with seven points.
Morris finished the game with a double-double including 13 points and 11 rebounds and Sophie Black netted ten points and collected two steals on the day.
Ramapo returns to action in the New Year when they travel to Rutgers Camden for a NJAC match-up on January 4th, tip-off at 6pm.
