RAMAPO DOMINATES RIVAL WPU IN 92-76 NJAC WIN

Wayne, NJ:  Sultan Aminu scored a season high 24 points as the Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival William Paterson University 92-76. The Roadrunners improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC while the Pioneers drop to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the conference. 
 
Ramapo was down 14-8 in the first half after a made three from WPU's Zack Frick, the Roadrunners went on a 7-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. The run was started by Josh Ford who made a jumper and capped off by made basket from Cory Soanes. With less than four minutes to play in the first half the Roadrunners went on a 12-3 run to pull away with a 49-40 lead heading into halftime.  Sultan Aminu led the Roadrunners in the first half with 14 points and five rebounds while Soanes and Thomas Bonacum recorded 11 and ten points respectively. Zahir Newell posted nine points and four rebounds in the half.  Ramapo shot 60% (20-33) from the field and 66% (8-12) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo outscored WPU in the second half 43-36 in the second half. The Roadrunners led the whole second half and held their biggest lead 76-62 with 8:40 to go in the game off a dunk from Christopher Moseley. The Pioneers went on a mini run of their own, cutting the lead to six with 7:04 on the clock before Ramapo scored back-to-back baskets from Moseley and Aminu to take an 80-70 lead (5:33). Ramapo held a ten-point lead in the final 2:55 of the game, outscoring WPU 8-0 down the stretch for a 92-76 NJAC road win.
 
Aminu led the team with 24 points (10-16 from the field, 4-4 from the free throw line) and nine rebounds while three other Roadrunners tallied double figures in scoring. Bonacum tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and a team high five assists while Newell and Sonaes each recorded 15 points. Ford and Moseley collected eight points of their own while Ford posted three assists and two steals. Ramapo shot 61% (37-60) from the field in the game, 20% (1-5) from beyond the three-point line and 73% (17-23) from the free throw line. Ramapo out rebounded the Pioneers 30-24 in the game and scored 66 points in the paint. Ramapo also scored 31 points off of WPU turnovers.
 
For WPU, Zach Frick led the team with 25 points including 6-12 from the three-point line. Galen Smith and Turell McClendon each contributed with 10 points while McClendon led the team with six rebounds. The Pioneers shot 46% (23-50) from the field, 44% (13-29) from the three-point line and 77% (17-22) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on the road on November 28th when they host Medgar Evers College in their first game of the season at the Bradley Center at 7:30pm.
