ROADRUNNERS TIP-OFF CHAMPIONS

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team took the trophy of the 2016-2017 Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament today as the defeated the Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth, 65-44 in the championship game.  Behind 14 points from Kellie Lane, the Roadrunners improved to 3-0 overall on the season.  St. Elizabeth takes second place and falls to 1-1 overall.
 
Lane finished the game shooting 3-11 from the floor and 7-11 from the charity stripe as Ramapo hit 20-51 (39%) as a team.  Shelby Ringer collected 12 points and Jina Crawford and Tia Solomon each added ten in the win.  Crawford and Ringer pulled down seven rebounds. 
 
The Roadrunners opened the game on a 12-2 run as Crawford sank the first two baskets of the game.  Ringer nailed down two three-point goals and Bridgette Buckalew hit two free throws to get to the ten-point advantage.  Ramapo would work to a 17-8 lead with a basket from Solomon forcing a St. Elizabeth timeout.  Another three from Ringer would put the Roadrunners ahead 20-8 and a three from Jasmine Poole would close out the quarter with Ramapo ahead, 20-11.  The Eagles would come within nine but five straight points from the Roadrunners, capped with a basket from Crawford would give Ramapo a 31-17 advantage with 3:08 on the clock.  At the buzzer the Roadrunners would lead 34-18 after Ringer collected nine points and Crawford eight.  The team shot 9-23 (39%) while Bintou Berete dished out three assists.  Poole led the Eagles with six points and Deja Ingram collected five points and pulled down 12 rebounds.
 
Ringer would hit her fourth three-pointer of the game to open the third quarter on a 6-0 run, 37-18, before a basket from Damaris King capped a mini run to close the gap to 27-39.  The Roadrunners would climb to a 16-point, 46-30 advantage with a three from Buckalew forcing an Eagle timeout.  Out of the timeout Lane would drain a long shot and the Roadrunners would continue to lengthen the spread climbing to a 21-point lead with 8:14 on the clock and a jumper from Lane.  Ramapo would hold onto the lead until the final buzzer where they took the game, 65-44.  Lane finished the half with seven points as the team hit 11-28.  Buckalew added three assists.  Danesha Triplett finished the half with nine points for the Eagles. 
 
Triplett finished the day with 12 points and Poole and Ingram collected 11 points each.  Ingram finished with a double-double collecting 15 rebounds.  The team shot 15-63 (24%) in the loss. 
 
In the consolation match-up, the Bears of St. Joseph's Brooklyn came out with a slight lead at the halftime buzzer after Destiny Marino led the way with ten points and Victoria Porcasi chipped in eight.  The team shot a combined 9-32 (28%) in the first half of play with Marino grabbing three steals.  Cassandra Taylor led John Jay with 12 points and Karen Rosario added ten while the team went 13-30 (43%).  Claire Prince led with three assists.
 
In the final half the Bears would hold onto their lead the entire 20 minutes of play finishing the game on top of the Bloodhounds, 65-58.  The Bears were led by Kellie O'Neill in the second half with 12 points while Caitlyn Staab added 11.  Staab pulled down six rebounds and Porcasi dished out six assists in the half.  Taylor and Uju Nwaigwe each chipped in seven points in the half as the team went 8-27 from the field.
 
For the game, Marino finished with 14 points while Staab and O'Neill collected 13 and 12 points respectively.  The team hit 18-68 (27%) in the win.  Staab pulled down eight rebounds and Porcasi dished out a team leading six assists.  Taylor finished with a team leading 19 points for John Jay as the team went 21-57 (37%) from the field.  Dana Nicholson led with nine rebounds and Prince and Nicholson finished with three assists each.
