Ewing, NJ: The Roadrunner men's soccer team posted an overtime loss today to the College of New Jersey, 1-2 on the road in a tough evenly played New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. With the loss Ramapo falls to 7-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. The Lions improve to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC.
It was an evenly played game as TCNJ held a slight 16-15 advantage in shots and Ramapo earned three corners to the Lion's two, but in the end the Lions would put one more ball in the back of the net than Ramapo taking the 2-1 overtime conference win.
The Lions got on the scoreboard first in the first half as Mateo Panizza scored his fifth of the season off an assist from Thomas Hogue to go ahead, 1-0. At the halftime buzzer, TCNJ held a 7-4 edge in shots as Dan Walsh made one save in net. For Ramapo,
Ryan Sprague collected four saves in the half.
Ramapo's
Justin Olaya would tie the game at 56:42 off a cross from
Trevor Albrecht, scoring his third of the season and with seconds left in regulation, Ramapo would hit the back of the net but the goal was called back for offsides keeping the teams tied at one goal each, forcing overtime play. The half went to Ramapo in shots at 9-7 and Sprague collected an additional one save.
Just under 4:30 into the overtime period, Hogue would collect the game winner for the Lions defeating Ramapo in the NJAC match-up. Each team collected two shots in the final minutes of play.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, October 10th when they host Berkeley College at 4pm at the Athletic Center.
