Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team and Kean University ended the final NJAC regular season game of the year in a 3-3 double overtime tie. The Roadrunners now stand at 10-4-3 overall, 2-4-3 in the conference while the Cougars finish 14-5-1 overall, 4-4-1 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners will wait to see if they earn a bid to the ECAC Men's Soccer Tournament while the Cougars will wait on outcomes of tonight's NJAC men's soccer games to see if they earn a spot in the NJAC Conference Tournament.
The Cougars came out on fire and scored a goal just one minute and ten seconds into the game to go up 1-0. Kenny Rocha got past the Ramapo defender bringing the ball to the end line and dishing it back to the six where Mathias Patino waited and struck the ball past
Ryan Sprague.
The Cougars went up 2-0 with a goal from Kazari Trought but the Roadrunners responded as
Malik Lopes poked the ball in past Bryce Horn off a cross from
Bayley Young with 23:55 left on the clock.
A free kick from
Jorge Castro with under 20 to play would land at the foot of
Justin Charkowski who would net the game tying goal at 2-2.
With under two minutes to play in the half, junior
Pablo Loza ripped a ball from 30 yards out past the diving Horn to give Ramapo a one goal, 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.
Kean led in shots, 11-7 in the half while Sprague made four saves in net. Horn made two saves for the Cougars.
In the second half, Rocha scored one of his own to time the game at three goals each. The goal coming off a rebound shot from Mateo Castro in the 62nd minute (61:13). Neither team could hit the back of the net while both had chances down the stretch sending the game in to overtime. Both teams recorded two shots in the first overtime period with no score pushing the game into the second overtime period. Ramapo outshot Kean 3-2 in the fourth period but nothing into the back of the net as the game remained tied at three all.
Kean posted 28 shots to Ramapo's 17 in the game while 13 were on goal to the Roadrunner's eight. Kean also edged Ramapo in corner kicks 11-4.
Ryan Sprague posted ten saves in the game for Ramapo and Bryce Horn collected five for the Cougars.
