Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team blanked non-conference rival Western Connecticut State University today 3-0 at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners earned their 10th win of the 2016 season, improving to 10-3-2 overall while the Colonials drop to 5-8-1 on the year.
The eventual game-winning goal came in the 33rd minute (32:09) of the game when
Jorge Castro blasted a free kick into the back of the net. Castro blasted the ball from 20 yards out past the diving Colonial keeper to score his third goal of the season. That was the only goal of the half as the Roadrunners recorded 11 shots to the Colonials three.
Justin Olaya and
Edward Franzoni added insurance goals for Ramapo in the second half to extend the lead 3-0. Olaya tallied his sixth goal of the year off a pass from Castro in the 55th minute (54:33) to make it 2-0.
Edward Franzoni scored his fourth goal of the season in the 60th minute (59:08) as Olaya and
Trevor Albrecht each collected assists on the goal to make it 3-0.
Ramapo recorded a 21-5 advantage in shots in the game including 8-2 in shots on goal. Ramapo also collected three corner kicks in the game while the Colonials posted one.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to NJAC rival #10 Rowan University on Saturday night at 7pm.
