Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

FRANZONI NETS GAME WINNER IN 3-1 WIN OVER NJCU

Mahwah, NJ:  Edward Franzoni would score the game winning goal as the Ramapo College men's soccer team defeated the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, 3-1 at the Athletic Center.  With the victory the Roadrunners improve to 9-3-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the conference while NJCU falls to 8-7-1 overall and remains defeated in conference play at 0-7.

Franzoni put away the eventual game winner in the first half of play as the Roadrunners held a huge advantage in shots at 26-9 on the day earning their second conference win and three points.

Junior Justin Olaya gave Ramapo a 1-0 lead as Jorge Castro laid the ball to Trevor Albrecht who pushed it across the front of the goal to Olaya with 30:19 left on the clock.  Ramapo would go up 2-0 when Albrecht lofted a corner kick into the box which would meet the head of Franzoni and past the diving Adam Cassidy.  The score would hold until the halftime buzzer where Ramapo held the advantage in shots at 20-3.

Cassidy would finish the half with eight saves and Ryan Sprague would collect two, as the Roadrunners earned three corners and the Gothic Knights none.

Ryan Campbell would give the Roadrunners a commanding 3-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season in the 48th minute but the Gothic Knights did not sit back closing the gap to 1-3 when Theo Sanoh collected his ninth of the season off an assist from Bashar Elsherif.

The two teams played an even statistical second half with each team collecting six shots but it was Ramapo who would finish on top to take home the 3-1 NJAC victory.  Sprague made three saves in the last 45 minutes and Steven Pires took over the goal tending duties for NJCU blocking two shots in the half.  Each team had one corner in the second half of play.

Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, October 19th when they host Western Connecticut in a non-conference match-up at 3pm.
