Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team dropped a tough New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up to Rutgers-Newark University today, 2-0 to fall to 8-3-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play. Rutgers-Newark gets their 14th win of the season (14-2) and fifth (5-1) in conference play.
After multiple chances on both ends of the field it would be Rutgers Newark who got on the scoreboard first when Chigozie Atubi hit the back of the net after a defensive clear from Ramapo off the line. The goal put Rutgers Newark up 1-0 in the 22nd minute of play. The score held until the halftime buzzer where Rutgers Newark held a slight edge in shots at 10-7 and in corners, Ramapo led, 5-3.
Ryan Sprague made three saves in net while Andres Medina also collected three saves for the Scarlet Raiders.
With 28:15 left to play, Sebastian Gostynski placed the ball into the corner of the net off a pass from Zachary Gillespie to go ahead two goals to none. The goal was Gistynski's eighth goal of the season.
The game would end with the Scarlet Raiders on top, 2-0. In the final half, Rutgers Newark led in shots, 7-4 and Sprague finished the half with one save for four total in the game. Medina collected one save in the second half to also finish the game with four.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 15th when they host New Jersey City University at noon.
