CHRISTINA PROPELS STOCKTON PAST RAMAPO

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team fell to the Ospreys of Stockton University, 49-63 today in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up at the Bradley Center.  With the loss Ramapo falls to 3-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play posting their 5th straight loss.  The Ospreys jump ahead to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
 
Taylor Christina hit 6-15 from the field including two three point goals to lead the team with 16 points, while Lea Mendolla netted 15 points hitting 5-9, all long shots.  The team hit a combined 24-62 nailing 38 percent of their shots.  Sasha Williams contributed ten points and posted four blocks as Lauren Bowler dished out a team high six assists. 
 
For Ramapo, Kellie Lane led the team with 13 points and Alexandra Seedes added 11 while Grace Elliott pulled down a team high ten rebounds.  Elliott also blocked three balls in the loss.  The Roadrunners shot 29 percent from the field hitting a combined 16-55.
 
The Ospreys got on the scoreboard first at the start of the game with a basket from Najha Treadwell and worked their way to a seven-point advantage, 15-8 at the end of the first quarter.  With 7:47 to play in the half, Christina laid down a jump shot to put Stockton ahead by ten, 20-10, but Ramapo responded with a 10-2 run to come within just two points with a free throw from Lane with 2:11 on the clock.  The Ospreys scored the final five points of the half to lead 27-20 heading into the intermission.  Mendolla and Christina each contributed nine points in the half as the team went 10-31 (32%) and Ramapo's Seedes led the Roadrunners in the half with six points.  The Roadrunners hit 7-30 from the field (23%). 
 
With a three-point goal from Mendolla just under five minutes into the third quarter, the Ospreys gained a 21, 44-23 lead holding the Roadrunners to just three points in the opening minutes.  After three, Stockton led 50-33, and continued to control the remainder of the game to walk away with the 14-point, 63-49 victory.  April Peterson posted eight second half points for the Ospreys as the team went 14-31 (45%) while the Roadrunners combined hitting 9-25 (36%) behind eight points from Lane.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, January 13th when they travel to Rutgers Newark for a 6pm tip.
