LADY ROADRUNNERS DOWN RUTGERS NEWARK, 66-52

Newark, NJ:  Kellie Lane dropped 16 points to lead the Roadrunners to a 66-52 victory over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark, snapping a five game losing streak to jump ahead to 4-11 overall and 2-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  With the loss Rutgers Newark falls to 5-10 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
 
Lane shot 5-7 in the win, including a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe as Alyson Oostdyk also went 5-7 from the field for ten points.  Doris Ilic added nine and Bridgette Buckalew added eight as the team hit 20-43 (47%) in the win.  Oostdyk and Alexandra Seedes each dished out four assists and Oostdyk blocked three shots as she also led the way in rebounds with eight total.  For the Scarlet Raiders, Arianna Williams netted 20 points and Maria Simmons collected 12 as the team shot 21-69 (30%).  Simmons pulled down a team high 11 boards and five assists.
 
The lead changed six times in the first quarter of play as Ramapo held onto a 16-13 lead at the buzzer.  In the second quarter, the Roadrunners connected a 7-0 run to jump ahead by ten, 23-13, a run sparked by two points from Lane and capped with two points by Oostdyk, split by a three point goal from Seedes.  Ramapo would hold onto the advantage and after 3:47 of scoreless play to end the half, the Roadrunners would enter the intermission with a 28-22 edge over Rutgers Newark.  Ramapo shot 11-26 (42%) in the opening half led by eight points from Lane, while Rutgers Newark went 7-26 (30%) with Williams leading in points with 11.
 
Ramapo would proceed to hold strong on offense spreading to a 14-point (47-33) advantage with a layup from Lane at the end of the third quarter and in the fourth, Ramapo would prove to be too much for the Scarlet Raiders as they posted their biggest lead of 17 points on two occasions, the first coming with 9:21 on the clock with a three-pointer from Ilic to go ahead 50-33.  The second 17-point lead would come just one minute later when Grace Elliott nailed a layup to go up 52-35 on Rutgers Newark.  Ramapo never looked back and held strong posting the 66-52 win in conference action on the road tonight.  The Roadrunners hit a combined 9-17 (53%) in the second half and Lane led with eight points, while Simmons nailed down 11 points as her team shot 14-43 (33%) from the field.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, January 16th when they travel to Rutgers Camden for a 3pm tip-off.
