Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team played host to the Ospreys of Stockton University today at the Bradley Center where, behind 24 points from
Thomas Bonacum, Ramapo came out on top in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up, 70-64 to improve to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Stockton falls to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC.
Bonacum led the Roadrunners hitting 8-10 for 24 points and
Christopher Moseley contributed ten points as the team hit a combined 21-46 (46%) in the win.
Josh Ford and
Cory Soanes pulled down six rebounds each as
Frank Nock led in assists with five. For the Ospreys, Marcus Harmon and Jaymere Hadden led the way with 16 points each and Armin Cane added 12 as the team hit 23-67 (34%) from the floor in the loss. Cane led in rebounds with 11 and steals with three.
With five points from Bonacum and three from
James Long, the Roadrunners quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Ospreys forcing a Stockton time-out. Bonacum hit the first jump shot of the game and then drained a long three before Long drained a long shot of his own. The Ospreys finally got on the board at 17:01 with a free throw from Maurice Hart and they worked their way within two points, 10-8 at 14:47 with a layup from Hadden. The Roadrunners connected ten points to Stockton's two to lead by 20-10 with 12:02 on the clock after Bonacum nailed down two points, and Stockton pushed to come within five points, 19-24 with a jumper from Cane. With 6:46 to play, Long drained another three-point goal to put Ramapo ahead, 31-19 forcing another Osprey timeout. The Ospreys slowly chipped away at Ramapo's lead in the remainder of the half and at 1:01 to go, Harmon drained a three to come within seven, 33-40, a score that would hold heading into the intermission. Bonacum collected a commanding 17 points in the first half of play and Long collected six, with two three-point goals, as the team hit a combined 14-29 (48%). Stockton's Harmon led the Ospreys with 16 points. The team shot a combined 11-28 (39%).
In the second half of play, Stockton took over the lead after a three-pointer from Hadden closed the gap to just one point, 42-43 at 18:04 and an and-one play from Hadden put the Ospreys on top, 45-43. Bonacum responded to tie the game at 45 just 18 seconds later before Ramapo put together a 8-4 run to jump ahead, 53-49 with 9:34 to go. An And-one play from Cane at 8:07 put the Ospreys within one point, 54-55 and just over one minute later another and-one play, this time from Darius Jerkins, gave the Ospreys their second lead of the game at 56-55. Out of a Ramapo timeout at 5:36, Hadden drained a long shot to take a 59-55 lead and after trading baskets and the lead the Roadrunners finished on top, 70-64. The Roadrunners shot 7-17 (41%) in the half behind seven points each from Nock, Bonacum, and Moseley. Hadden led the Ospreys with 14 points and the team went 12-39 (31%) in the half.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, January 13th when they travel to Rutgers Newark for an 8pm tip-off.
