Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's basketball team defeated NJAC rival the College of New Jersey tonight 88-78 at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners now stand at 8-5 overall, 4-2 in the NJAC while the Lions fall to 7-5 overall, 3-3 in the conference.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a six point lead in the first five minutes of the game (10-4) before TCNJ took a one point lead (14-13) with 12 minutes left in the first half. Ramapo began to pull away in the half when they extended their lead to 14, 33-19, on a made basket from
Thomas Bonacum with 6:11 remaining. The Lions then went on a 12-0 run that included two three-pointers to cut the Ramapo lead to two, 33-31 with 3:35 left in the half before they would tie the game at 36 all to end the half. The Lions ended the half on a 17-3 run. The Lions shot 43% (14-32) from the field, 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 75% (3-4) from the free throw line in the half. Jordan Glover, Eric Murdock and Nick Alaimo each tallied eight points to lead TCNJ in the half. Ramapo shot 50% (14-28) from the field, 28 % (2-7) from the three-point line and 66% (6-9) from the free throw line.
Christopher Moseley led the Roadrunners with 11 points while Bonacum tallied eight points and six rebounds in the first half to lead Ramapo.
Ramapo came out in the second half and scored the first five points to take a six point lead, 42-36, before they extended it to ten, 50-40, on a dunk from Soanes with under 18 minutes to play in the game. TCNJ shrunk the lead down to two, 61-59, with 10:21 on the clock on a three-pointer from Alaimo. Moseley answered back for the Roadrunners with a basket at 9:51 off a dish from Soanes. The Roadrunners stretched their lead back to 12 with 8:23 left to play when Soanes scored a layup. TCNJ shrunk the Ramapo lead to four before the Roadrunners went on a 6-0 run for an 11-point lead, 80-69 with just under six minutes on the clock. The Roadrunners held on for a ten-point win down the stretch 88-78.
Bonacum led the Roadrunners with 19 points, ten rebounds, six steals and two assists while Moseley tallied 22 points, eight rebounds, one steal and one block.
Frank Nock added 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal while
Josh Ford added ten points and a team high seven assists. The team shot 52% (34-65) from the field, 33% (4-12) from the three-point line and 76% (16-21) from the free-point line.
Murdock led TCNJ with 22 points and ten rebounds while Alaimo added 19 points. Jordan Glover tallied 11 points while Eric Klacik added eight points and a team high six assists. The team shot 42% (24-57) from the field, 32% (10-31) from the three-point line and 87% (20-23) from the free-point line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, January 9th when they host NJAC rival Stockton University at 3:00pm.
