KEAN PROVES TOO MUCH FOR RAMAPO

Union, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball suffered a 12-point, 60-72 loss tonight at the hands of the Cougars of Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up on the road.  With the loss the Roadrunners fall to 4-15 overall and 2-10 in conference play, while the Cougars jump ahead to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the NJAC.
 
The Roadrunners were held to just four points in the opening period, (4-17) but rallied to take the second, 17-12, to trail by just eight points heading into the intermission, 21-29.  In the half, the Roadrunners hit a combined 8-26 (31%) with Alexandra Seedes leading all scorers with seven points.  Grace Elliott sank six points of her own in the half.  For the Cougars, Marajiah Bacon collected ten points and Jaquetta Owens netted eight as the team went 10-32 (31%) from the field.
 
At the start of the third quarter, Seedes would drain a three-pointer and Alyson Oostdyk followed with a layup to put Ramapo within three points, 26-29, but the Cougars would respond with five points of their own to go on top again by eight, 34-26 with 7:16 on the clock.  Kean would push for the remainder of the period to a double-digit lead, finishing the period with a 51-39 advantage over Ramapo.  Kean's biggest lead of the game came with 8:45 left to play when Bacon hit the back end of a two shot foul to earn a 16-point, 57-41 lead.  The Cougars would not let up their double-digit advantage during the time left on the clock taking home the 72-60 NJAC win.  Elliot collected a team leading ten points for Ramapo in the second half as the team hit a combined 14-32 (44%).  Kean's Bacon nailed down 20 second half points leading the way.  The Cougars shot 16-31 (52%) in the final 20 minutes of play.
 
On the night, Bacon finished with 30 points and Owens nailed down 20, while Miesha Bacon chipped in 11 points of her own.  The Cougars hit 26 field goals on 63 attempts shooting a combined 41% from the field.  Ruby Asabor led the way in rebounds with 11 and Owens dished out seven assists.  For Ramapo, Elliot finished on top with 16 points, Kellie Lane added 12, and Oostdyk grabbed ten boards.  The Roadrunners shot a combined 22-58 (38%) in the loss.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, January 30th when they travel to Montclair State for a 3pm tip-off.
