ROWAN SLIPS PAST RAMAPO IN MEN'S BASKETBALL ACTION 89-87

Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University men's basketball team slipped past Ramapo College tonight 89-87 at the Bradley Center. The Profs improve to 7-11 overall, 4-7 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 11-7 overall, 7-4 in the conference.
 
The score was tied for the tenth time in the game 66-66 with just under nine minutes to play in the second half before the Roadrunners went on a mini 7-0 run. Corey Soanes started the run with a jumper off a dish from Nick Stanek before Stanek sank a pair of free throws to take a 70-66 lead with 7:29 on the clock. Frank Nock then nailed a three-pointer to cap the run for a 73-66 lead with 6:44 to go. The two teams traded baskets before Rowan cut the lead to three on as Rob DePersia converted on back-to-back trips to the free throw line the second coming with 5:46 left on the clock down 72-75. R. DePersia started an 11-4 run that included two three-pointers from Kris O'Connor and Shawn Wilson to tie the game for the 11th time 79-79 with 3:27 left to play. The two teams would trade made free throws, the later coming from Nock who tied the game at 81 with 1:51 on the clock. A big three pointer from Nick DePersia put the Profs in the lead 84-81 with under a minute to play before they took a five-point lead on a pair of free throws from Wilson 87-82 with 25 seconds left. Bonacum hit a jumper for the Roadrunners to come within three 84-87 with 18 seconds on the clock. Following a Ramapo timeout, the Profs mishandled the ball allowing Ramapo to get the ball back with 15 seconds on the clock. Ramapo called a timeout to draw up a play and Nock hit a three off a pass from James Long to tie the game for the 14th time 87-87. R. DePersia drove to the basket for Rowan and was fouled with three seconds remaining, allowing him to shot two free throws. R. DePersia sunk both shots putting the Profs up two 89-87. Ramapo got a three pointer and a put-back off before the buzzer sounded but neither saw the bottom of the net.
 
N. DePersia led Rowan with 26 points, including finishing 6-9 from the three-point line. Wilson tallied 15 points while R. DePersia added 14 points, including 10-12 from the free throw line. Chris Gross collected 13 points in the game. The Profs shot 56% (30-53) from the field, 44% (12-27) from the three-point line and 81% (17-21) from the free throw line. Rowan forced 19 Ramapo turnovers resulting in 26 points for the Profs.
 
Nock led both teams with 27 points, including 11-18 from the field and 4-8 from the three-point line. Thomas Bonacum added 19 points and ten rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Christopher Moseley added 12 points while James Long dished out a career high ten assists in the game. Soanes added eight points for the Roadrunners. Ramapo shot 54% (37-68) from the field, 35% (5-14) from the three-point line and 53% (8-15) from the free throw line. Ramapo forced 20 Rowan turnovers in the game which resulted in 24 points for the Roadrunners.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 27th when they travel to NJAC rival Kean University for a game at 8:00pm.
