Mahwah, NJ: The Colonials from the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team shutout Ramapo College today at the Athletic Center, 3-0. The Roadrunners now stand at 1-1 overall while the Colonials improve to 2-1.
In the first half, Western Connecticut got on the board in the 27th minute (26:16) when senior Kristy Matasavage took a pass from sophomore Greta McConnell to score her first goal of the season. The Colonials scored their second goal with seven seconds left in the half as senior Caitlin Ogrizovich scored her second goal of the year off a pass from senior Heidi Odenwaelder to take a 2-0 lead.
The Colonials out shot Ramapo 11-6 in the first half while the Roadrunners held a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners.
In the second half, Matasavage assisted on senior Jenny Cappello's team leading fourth goal of the year in the 65th minute (64:58), extending their lead 3-0. The Roadrunners could not get on the board in the second half as they were out shot 16-1.
For the game the Colonials recorded 27 shots to Ramapo's seven and they also held a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Sophomore
Emily Wisneski kept Ramapo in the game with 18 saves. Junior Kristy Trotta posted four saves in the shutout win for Western Connecticut State.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, September 12th when they host Marywood College at 1pm.
