WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO RUTGERS-NEWARK

Mahwah, NJ:  Rutgers Newark University women's soccer team handed Ramapo College their first NJAC loss of the season in a 3-0 shutout this afternoon. The Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-3 overall, 1-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners fall to 6-2-1 overall, 1-1-1 in the NJAC.

Sara Corson scored all three goals for the Scarlet Raiders in the first half en-route to their 3-0 win. She needed only three minutes to score her first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, with 2:57 on the clock. Corson tallied her second goal off a pass from Nicole Gomez after fighting past two Ramapo defenders in the 20th minute (19:08) before she tallied a hat trick in the 38th minute (37:44) when she hit the back of the net off a pass from Cristina Estremera.

Rutgers-Newark led 8-6 in shots in the first half and recorded the only corner kick of the half by either team. In the second half, Ramapo out-shot the Scarlet Raiders, 10-3 but could not find the back of the net. In the first seven minutes of the second half the Roadrunners had five opportunities to score, shooting the ball just wide of the goal posts. Jessica Cusick tallied four saves in the game for the Roadrunners while Diana Carvalho collected five for the Scarlet Raiders.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday when they travel to NJAC rival Rowan University for a game at 6pm.
