Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a 6-0 shutout win at home this afternoon over Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
The Spartans, a NCAA Division II school, hit the post in the 12th minute before
Amber Hermanns scored the eventual game-winner. Hermanns took a cross from
Nicole Ninomiya in the 14th minute of the game and scored. Ninomiya then scored back-to-back goals with both assists coming from Hermanns coming in the 20th and 21st minute of the game. The Roadrunners held a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Ramapo tallied 12 shots in the first half while STAC recorded four.
Nani Vizcaino got the Roadrunners on the board in the second half with a goal in the 58th minute before
Alexa Ragusa put one in the net off a rebound about ten minutes later (68th minute) for a 5-0 lead. The Roadrunners tallied their final goal of the game in the 77th minute when
Sydney Kauffman hit the back of the net off a pass from
Gabrielle Foster extending their lead 6-0.
The Roadrunners led 27-7 in shots in the game and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks while both teams recorded three off sides. Ramapo goalie,
Jessica Cusick earned her first shutout of the season as she tallied five saves in the game. For the Spartans, Lauren Morales and Courtney Dumain each logged 45 minutes in the net. Morales let up three goals while she made four saves and Dumain let up the final three goals of the game and recorded three saves.
Ramapo returns to action on Sunday, September 6th when they host Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at 1pm.
