MEN'S SOCCER FIGHTS TO EARN 2-2 DRAW

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College men's soccer team fought from two goals down to earn a 2-2 tie today to NJAC rival William Paterson at home.  Ramapo stands at 5-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference while the Pioneers stand at 3-4-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference.

Behind two goals to none and with just ten men the Roadrunners knotted an equally played conference game to force overtime today at the Athletic Center.  Ramapo played 60-plus minutes down a man and fought to score two goals and earn the tie for one point in the NJAC standings.

After a goal from the Roadrunners got called back, the Pioneers put a point up on the board to take a 1-0 lead at 12:44, the unassisted goal from leading scorer Musa Sackoon, his eighth of the year.  The Pioneers went up 2-0 with an unassisted goal from Fabian Allen at 33:06, a score that held until the halftime buzzer where the two teams were equal in shots with five each.  Ramapo's Matthew Hernandez made two saves and William Paterson's Jordan Fernandes made two saves of his own as WPU held a slight advantage in corner kicks at 3-2.

In the second half, Ramapo's Bayley Young closed the gap, 1-2 with his first goal of the year off a free kick from Jorge Castro at 67:42.  With just over one minute to play, Justin Olaya ripped a ball past the William Paterson netminder off a cross from Kevin Monaghan to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime play.

Both teams played scoreless soccer in the overtime periods ending the game knotted at two goals each.  Ramapo and William Paterson each recorded 14 shots and Hernandez made seven saves in the game.  Mike Villegas played 51 minutes and made one save with two goals against.
