Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2015 season as New York University defeated the Roadrunners, 2-1. The Violets improve to 6-1 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 5-1-1 overall.
Olivia Braender-Carr put the Violets on the board in the first half in the fourth minute (3:17) of the game, her second goal of the season for a 1-0 score. Ramapo's
Gabriella DiLiberto tallied her first goal of the season to tie the game at one in the 18th minute (17:32) after stealing the ball from the keeper and hitting the back of the net. NYU would come back with the eventual game-winning goal in the 23rd minute (22:28) when Lexi Clarke netted her second goal of the season off a long pass from Sharon Lee to take a 2-1 lead.
Ramapo had their best chance to score to tie the game in the second half when
Nicole Ninomiya ripped a shot that the Violets's keeper Cassie Steinberg made a diving save to keep NYU in the lead. NYU outshot Ramapo 14-7 in the game and 9-4 in shots on goal. They also recorded six corner kicks to Ramapo's one. Steinberg made three saves; all in the second half for NYU while
Jessica Cusick tallied seven saves in the loss for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo returns to action when they travel to NJAC rival William Paterson University on Saturday, September 26th at 1pm.
