Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team played host to the Panthers of Old Westbury today where they came out with a 4-0 blanking in a non-conference match-up to improve to 5-3-1 overall on the year. With the loss the Panthers remain defeated at 0-7.
Ramapo jumped out to a quick start with a goal from rookie
David Calabrese at 1:06, his first of his collegiate career, to put the Roadrunners ahead, 1-0. At 35:13,
Justin Olaya hit the back of the net off a rebound shot from
Lucas Tasci to push ahead, 2-0 before rookie
Marco Samson knocked a ball past the Old Westbury goaltender to put Ramapo ahead, 3-0 heading into the intermission. Olaya earned the assist on the goal that came at 43:38.
Ramapo out shot the Panthers 14-3 in the first 45 minutes while
Ryan Sprague made two saves in goal for Ramapo. Peter Sicardi blocked nine shots in the first half for Old Westbury.
In the final half,
Trevor Albrecht posted his first goal of the year off a corner kick by
Kevin Monaghan at 51:19 to put the Roadrunners on top by four goals, a score that would stand until the final buzzer. Ramapo again held an advantage in shots, 11-5 in the second half while Sprague made four more saves in net. Sicardi made an additional four saves in the final half of play.
On the day, Ramapo held a 12-5 edge in corner kicks and a 25-8 advantage in shots.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, September 26th when they host William Paterson University at 1pm at the Athletic Center.
