Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men's soccer team opened the 2015 season today playing to a 2-2 draw with Lancaster Bible College on the road. The Roadrunners and the Chargers open the year at 0-0-1 after 110 minutes of play.
After a scoreless first half, the Chargers jumped out on top with a goal from Malik Parsons just four minutes into the second half. Ramapo answered back six minutes later with a goal from rookie
Jorge Castro off an assist from senior
Santiago Garzon at the 55 minute mark. With 32:45 left to play, the Roadrunners jumped ahead 2-1 after rookies
Ryan Campbell and
Trevor Albrecht combined efforts to take the lead. It was Campbell with the go ahead goal and Albrecht with the assist.
The 2-1 advantage wasn't enough to take the game as Charger senior Nathan Grimley tied the game at 2-2 with 18 minutes on the clock, a score that held until the final buzzer of regulation forcing overtime play.
Ramapo out shot the Chargers in the overtime periods 8-2 but Josue Bosque held Ramapo scoreless in goal for LBC in overtime leaving the two teams knotted at two goals.
Ryan Sprague made three saves in goal for Ramapo including blocking a penalty kick, while
Matthew Hernandez finished out the final 45 minutes making five saves of his own.
The Roadrunners return to action this weekend as the host the President's Cup. Ramapo will take on Western New England University on Saturday, September 5th at 1pm on the turf.
