BASEBALL GETS CONFERENCE WIN OVER RUTGERS NEWARK

Newark, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team posted a big 5-2 NJAC conference victory today over the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark to get their fifth win in conference play (5-2), improving to 16-8 overall.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first in the 1st inning after Rob DeAngelis scored on an error by the third baseman as Chris Werr reached at first base.  Rutgers Newark who tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd with a run from Josh Cote which came on a home run shot to left center, before taking the lead in the 4th inning when Justin Marks crossed home plate with two outs. 

Ramapo would tie the game in the top of the 5th with a run from Joe Venturino, before Ramapo capitalized on an error by the short stop in the 6th inning to drive in three runs to jump ahead 5-2.  Evan Ochlan came home on a sac fly from Austin Unglaub and DeAngelis and Ryan Rinsky both crossed the plate on a RBI double to left from Scott Shields.

Walker Larson shut out Rutgers Newark in the final four innings letting up no hits to earn the 5-2 victory.  Larson improves to 5-1 on the year in the complete game, striking out ten and walking just two.  Jonathan Dominiguez gets the loss to fall to 1-2.  He struck out four and walked two in six innings pitched.

DeAngelis went 1-2 with two runs scored while Shields, Venturino, Werr, Jared Ensmenger, and Connor Walsh each got a hit for Ramapo.  Cote led Rutgers Newark hitting 2-3 in the loss with one run and one RBI.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow at home as Rutgers Newark travels to Jeff Maund field for a 3:30pm match-up in Mahwah.
