Tom Portesy fired a three-hitter in a 9-0 shutout victory over the Rutgers-Newark University baseball team this afternoon at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 17-8 overall, 6-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders fall to 9-16 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
Ramapo scored four runs in the bottom of the first on five hits.

Jared Ensmenger drove in two RBI with a hard hit single to left field as Peshiani and
Joe Venturino scored.
Rafael Dela Cruz then drove home
Chris Werr with a single up the middle, 4-0.
The Roadrunners added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with no hits as the Scarlet Raiders committed three errors which extended the Ramapo lead, 6-0. In the eighth inning, the Roadrunners added three more runs. Venturino singled to lead off the inning before Peschiani was hit by a pitch and Werr walked to load the bases. Following one out Venturino scored on a wild pitch before
Kevin Kelly ripped a double to left field, allowing Peschiani and pinch runner
Evan Ochlan to score, 9-0.
Portesy improved to 6-0 on the year as he struck out seven over seven innings of work. He walked four and scattered three hits.
Mark Doyle pitched the eighth inning in relief. He struck out one and did not give up a hit.
Kyle Doerr worked the ninth inning for the Roadrunners, facing three batters and striking out two.
DeAngelis was perfect at the plate for Ramapo going 3-3 on the day with two runs scored while Kelly and Ensmenger each collected two RBI.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow at Rutgers-Camden University in a NJAC doubleheader beginning at 11:30am.
