Camden, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden University baseball team swept Ramapo College this afternoon at Campbell's Field, 6-3 in game one and 4-2 in game two. The Scarlet Raptors improve to 13-9 overall, 8-1 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners drop to 17-10 overall, 6-4 in the conference.
In game one, the Scarlet Raptors led 5-0 after six innings of play before Ramapo got on the board in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded,
Joe Venturino hit a bases clearing double to put the Roadrunners on the board with three runs to come within two, 3-5.
RU-Camden scored an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh extending their lead 6-3. The Roadrunners could not push another run across in the final two innings as the Scarlet Raptors came away with the win.
Ramapo collected five hits in the game while Venturino drove in all three RBI. Ramapo starting pitcher
Mike Campbell (2-2) took the loss, he struck out three and did not walk a batter while he scattered five hits over 4.2 innings of work.
In game two, the Roadrunners took a 2-0 lead before the Scarlet Raptors came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings for a 4-2 win.
Ramapo scored one run in the top of the fourth inning when
Rob DeAngelis led off with a single and later scored on an infield error. In the stop of the sixth inning,
Chris Werr drove home DeAngelis with and RBI infield single.
The Scarlet Raptors would come back to take the lead in the seventh and did not let the Roadrunners score another run as they took game two, 4-2.
DeAngelis and Werr each collected two hits in the game while
Bobby Shannon, Venturino and
Rafael Dela Cruz all recorded one hit. Ramapo starting pitcher
Brian Cottrell earned a no-decision in the game. He worked the first six innings, striking out one, walking three and surrendering only three hits.
Mark Doyle (1-4) took the loss for the Roadrunners; he surrendered one hit while he gave up two runs, one earned.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 16th when they host #5/8 Kean University at 3:30pm.
