BASEBALL SPLITS AT ROWAN; CLINCHES THIRD SEED IN NJAC TOURNAMENT

Glassboro, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team split a NJAC doubleheader today against #22 Rowan University.  The Profs (23-12, 12-6) took game one, 5-1 while the Roadrunners (24-22, 12-6) won game two, 4-2.   The Roadrunners clinched the #3 seed in the 2015 NJAC Baseball Tournament. The Roadrunners will host #4 Rowan University on Tuesday, April 28th at 3:30pm.

Rowan belted out eight hits in the first game of the day while their pitching staff held the Roadrunners to just four hits. The Profs took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning.  Steven Todd walked lead off the inning and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick Krieger. Todd came home when Evan Hughes hit a sacrifice fly to center field. 
 
The Roadrunners then tied the game in the top of the eighth inning, 1-1.  Joe Venturino singled and moved to second on an infield ground out before advancing to third on a wild pitch.  Venturino was able to come home on a throwing error by the catcher to score an unearned run for the Ramapo.
 
In the bottom of the eighth inning the Profs collected four more runs to take back the lead, 5-1.  Todd singled to the shortstop to get on base and advanced to second when Krieger bunted.  Petriello then walked  to load the bases. Following a Roadrunner pitching change, Jason Clapper ripped a single up the middle to plate Todd and Krieger.  Eric Oliver collect two RBI when he singled to left field for the four run lead.

Mike Campbell earned a no-decision for Ramapo. He worked the first 5.2 innings, striking out two, walking five and scattering four hits. Mark Doyle (2-5) earned the loss, scattering two hits in 1.1 innings of work.  He struck out one, walked two, and surrendered three runs.
 
Rafeal Dela Cruz, Venturino, Werr, and Connor Walsh each had one hit in the game for the Roadrunners. 
 
In game two, both the Roadrunners and the Profs pounded out ten hits.  The Roadrunners took a 2-0 led in the second inning. Rob DeAngelis ripped a single to the gap in right center bringing home Walsh and Chemis who reached base on a single and fielder's choice respectively earlier in the inning.
 
The Roadrunners scored another run in the third, 3-0. Walsh drove home Venturino with an RBI infield single, Venturino led off the inning with a single to center field.

The Profs scored one run in the third and fourth innings to come within one, 2-3. In the third, Casey Grimes plated Pavlik with an unearned run with a single up the middle before Pavlik singled home Clapper with hit to left field in the fourth inning. Ramapo added two more runs in the sixth inning when Walsh laced a double to right and scored on a hard hit single to left by Chemis.
 
Walker Larson earned his second save of the season closing out the game in the ninth inning for Ramapo. He surrendered only one hit in the inning. Brian Cottrell (1-1) scattered nine hits over eight innings of work in the win. He struck out one and walked one.
 
Walsh was 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while DeAngelis finished 2-4 with two RBI. Chemis was 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI. 
 
The Roadrunners will return to action when they host Western Connecticut State on Monday, April 27th at 3:30pm.
