BASEBALL DEFEATS WCSU IN 6-1 WIN

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Western Connecticut State University today 6-1. The Roadrunners improve to 25-12 overall while the Colonials fall to 15-16 on the year.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm when they host #4 Rowan University in the opening round of the 2015 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament.
 
The Roadrunners scored one run in the top of the first when Brandon Berger drew a bases loaded walk allowing Rob DeAngelis to touch home plate. DeAngelis walked to lead off the game. In the second inning, Ramapo added four runs for a 5-0 lead. Matt Chemis led off with an infield single before he stole second base. Ryan Rinsky was hit by a pitch before Berger reached on an infield error to lead the bases. DeAngelis poked a single down the right field line driving home two RBI in Chemis and Rinsky. Scott Shields and Joe Venturino each picked up one RBI with an infield ground out to second base and short stop respectively.
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Venturino laced a single through the left side of the infield before moving up to third on a single to left field from Chris Werr. Connor Walsh then plated Venturino with a RBI sac fly to right field for a 6-0 score.
 
The Colonials scored their lone run in the top of the eighth inning when Matt Greene drove home Joe Costa with a sac fly to center field.  
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Kevin Checkett (2-0) fired a five-hitter through eight innings of work in the 6-1 win. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered only one earned run. Charles Weinkofsky worked the final inning for the Roadrunners. He faced four batters and struck out one.
 
DeAngelis led the team at the plate going 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Venturino was 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Walsh (1-2), Chemis (1-3) and Walker Larson (1-1) each collected one hit in the game.
