Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team completed the home-and-home series sweep of rival William Paterson University today with a 5-2 win at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 23-11 overall, 11-5 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 19-13 overall, 5-11 in the conference.

Ramapo scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits. Scott Shields laced a single up the middle and advanced to third on a double down the left field line from Joe Venturino. The left fielder couldn't field the ball clean allowing Shields to come around and score for the first run of the game. Ramapo added one run in the second when Ryan Rinsky came home to score on Shields infield hit for a 3-0 lead. The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth when Werr scored on a wild pitch and Scott Peschiani came home when Brandon Berger drew a bases-loaded walked for a 5-0 lead.

WPU got on the board in the top of the seventh when Victor Sanchez poked a bases loaded single through the right side of the infield plating KC Abel. Ramapo starting pitcher Tom Portesy got out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh with a strikeout looking to end the threat.

Portesy worked the eighth keeping the Pioneers off the board before he gave way to Kyle Doerr to start the ninth inning. Doerr struck out one and surrendering two hits and one run (not earned).
