BASEBALL DOWNS LEHMAN, 17-1

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team defeated Lehman College 17-1 today at Jeff Maund Field. The Roadrunners improve to 13-6 overall while Lehman no stands at 2-6.
 
Ramapo got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run inning. Rob DeAngelis walked to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch for the games first run. With the bases loaded Jared Ensmenger laced a single to right field plating Brandon Berger before Mario Fontanella poked a sac fly to center field allowing Venturino to come home for the team's third run, 3-0. The Roadrunners added one run in the second and two runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead before they tacked on ten runs in the fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by DeAngelis' two RBI single to center field as Fontanella and Bobby Shannon scored while Venturino and Kevin Kelly each picked up RBI singles. Later in the inning Shannon laced a single to center field recording two RBI as Cosmo Iacobellis and Kelly came around to score. Ramapo collected six hits in the inning and took a 16-0 lead.
 
Ramapo scored their final run in the seventh before Lehman scored their lone run in the top of the eighth on an infield error by the Roadrunners 17-1. Venturino, Shannon and McEldowney each collected three hits apiece while Austin Unglaub, Kelly, Chris Werr and Ensmenger added two hits apiece while Unglaub led the team with three RBI.
 
Kevin Checkett (1-0) earned the win on the mound for Ramapo as he struck out six over five innings of work. Rob Meola worked 2.0 innings of relief, only giving up one hit while striking out one. Anthony Scillieri worked the final two innings of the game, scattering two hits with two strikeouts.
 
The Roadrunners return to action when they host Montclair State University tomorrow afternoon in a NJAC conference game beginning at 3:30pm.
