BASEBALL DEFEATS NJAC RIVAL MONTCLAIR, 5-3

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College baseball team, behind key runs each from Rafael Dela Cruz and Scott Shields, pushed past the Red Hawks of Montclair State, 5-3 today at the Athletic Center.  With the win the Roadrunners improve to 14-6 overall and remains undefeated in the NJAC conference at 3-0.  Montclair falls to 6-9 and 1-2 in the conference.

The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Scott Peschiani singled to center to lead off the inning, and later came home on a single from Dela Cruz.  Shields would later loft a sac fly to left field bringing home Chris Werr to jump ahead, 2-0.

Montclair would get those runs back in the top of the 4th with runs coming from Philip Scott and Christopher Reynolds, before the Roadrunners again jumped ahead in the bottom of the inning with two more runs. Shields came home after singling to get on base and Ryan Rinsky scored on the same play after Joe Venturino singled up the middle to drive in the two runs taking a 4-2 lead.

The Roadrunners added an insurance run from Scott Paulus in the bottom of the 5th and Montclair closed the gap with a run from Anderson Rosa in the 7th, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners took home the two-run, 5-3 NJAC win at home.
