Pamona, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC doubleheader from rival Stockton University today, 6-4 in nine innings in game one, and 7-2 in game two. The Roadrunners improve to 9-5 overall, 2-0 in the NJAC while the Ospreys have their eight game win streak snapped, they now stands at 10-3 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
In game one, Ramapo starting pitcher
Katrina Buczkowski (5-2) fired a complete game five hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks while
Melanie Walling drove home two RBI finishing 2-4.
Stockton scored one run in the first inning on a Ramapo error with two outs before the Roadrunners came back to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the third inning.
Danielle Saporito walked and moved to third on
Kim LaPenta's double before coming home on a fielder's choice from Walling. The Osprey's then took a 3-1 lead after three innings of play before Ramapo once again tied the game with two runs of their on in the fifth inning. LaPenta smacked a double and Moreno walked before Walling drove home LaPenta with a single to left field.
Ally Spellman then plated pinch runner
Emily Helmer with a single to left center field to tie the game, 3-3. Neither team could push a run across in the seventh inning forcing the game into the eighth inning and the international tie-breaker rule, the last batted out in the previous inning starts on second base for the offensive team.
Neither team scored in the eighth inning.
Grace Brennan was place on second base in the top of the ninth for the Roadrunners, she moved to third on an infield ground out before scoring on
Jaclyn Lima's single to left field. Lima advanced to third on an error by left fielder and scored on a sac bunt from Saporito with the games eventual game winning run, 5-3. Moreno then laced a single to center field allowing Saporito to come around for a 6-3 lead. The Ospreys scored one run in the bottom of the ninth before the Roadrunners got the final out of the game for the 6-4 win.
In game two, Ramapo belted out ten hits to score seven runs in a 7-2 win. The Roadrunners scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings for a 3-1 lead before they tallied three runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the sixth inning with one out Saporito singled and stole second base before she came home on LaPenta's double. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Alexandria Rigoli and Brennan worked two bases loaded walks allowing two runs to cross home plate for Ramapo. In the top of the seventh, Ramapo extended their lead 7-2 with a RBI double from Moreno. Stockton did not score in the bottom of the seventh while Ramapo starting pitcher
Christina Brizek recorded three ground outs in the inning to earn the win. Brizek (3-3) fired a five hitter in the complete game win, striking out three and walking three.
Moreno finished the game 4-5 with one run scored and one RBI while Saporito was 2-4 with two runs scored. LaPenta scored two runs while Brennan drove home two RBI of her own finishing 1-2.
Ramapo returns to action on March 31st when they host a doubleheader with NJAC rival New Jersey City University beginning at 3pm.
