Winter Haven, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team fell to Eastern Connecticut State University today, 11-6. The Roadrunners now stand at 7-2 overall while the Warriors improve to 3-5 on the year.
Ramapo got on the board in the top of the first when
Rafael Dela Cruz led off the inning and belted his first home run of the season over the center field wall to take a quick 1-0 lead.
ECSU would take a 2-1 lead they would never lose when Kyle Hart smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Neither team could score until the fifth when the Warriors extended their lead by one, 3-1. In the sixth inning they added five runs on six hits to take an 8-1 lead before they added two more runs in the seventh, 10-1.
Scott Peschiani knocked home
Joe Venturino with a double down the left field line in the top of the eighth before ECSU got the run back in the bottom of the eighth, 11-2. Ramapo scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Dan McEldowney led off the inning with a single to center field and later scored on an infield ground out.
Rich Policastro smacked a triple down the right field line, plating
Austin Unglaub and
Mario Fontanella before
Chris Werr knocked home Policastro with a single up the middle for the team's final run of the game. The Warriors then got the final out of the game coming away with an 11-6 win.
Walker Larson (2-1) struck out five, walked one and scattered eight hits over 5.2 innings of work for the Roadrunners in the loss. Peschiani led the team at the plate finishing 2-4, both doubles, with one RBI. Ramapo collected seven total hits in the game.
For ECSU, Derek Allen (2-0) earned the win; he struck out one and walked one in 3.1 innings of relief work. The team collected 13 hits in the game including six extra base hits.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning when they take on University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in two 7-inning games beginning at 10am.
