Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College baseball team, behind a 4-5 performance from
Brandon Berger, posted a 9-3 win over Western New England today to improve to 7-1 overall on the year.
Berger hit 4-5 including a double to lead the Roadrunners to a six-run victory at the Russ Matt Tournament. The Roadrunners quickly got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 1st inning after
Rafael Dela Cruz singled and Berger doubled to lead off, and later came home on a homer to left field from
Joe Venturino to jump ahead, 3-0. WNE would respond with two runs in the top of the 2nd before Ramapo's
Scott Shields and Dela Cruz would score in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 advantage.
In the 5th inning, Venturino and
Scott Peschiani would score after both singling to get on base earlier in the inning and with two outs in the 7th,
Ryan Rinsky and Shields would each score a run to put Ramapo ahead 9-2 with just two innings to play. Western New England tacked on a run in the top of the 8th but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners earned the 9-3 non-conference win.
Dela Cruz hit 2-3 with two RBI for Ramapo while
Matthew Chemis went a perfect 2-2 in the win. Venturino went 2-3 with two runs and four RBI and Shields belted out 2-5 with two runs scored.
Jerry D'Andrea gets the win for Ramapo pitching six innings with just three hits and two runs, striking out two.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow when they take on Eastern Connecticut at 3:30pm.
